Cancer Screening

What Is Cancer Screening?

Some types of cancer can be found before they cause symptoms. Checking for cancer (or for conditions that may lead to cancer) in people who have no symptoms is called screening. Screening can help doctors find and treat some types of cancer early. Generally, cancer treatment is more effective when the disease is found early. However, not all types of cancer have screening tests and some tests are only for people with specific genetic risks.

Screening for Specific Types of Cancer

For some types of cancer, research shows that using certain screening tests regularly will reduce deaths from that cancer.

Colorado CyberKnife is proud to announce the integration of best-in-class technologies UroNav and DynaCad (Advanced imaging for Prostate, Breast & Brain Cancer treatment) in our imaging facilities. We are the first center in Colorado to offer these life-saving technologies to our patients.

With improvements in medical technology, surgery is no longer the only option to see what’s going on inside the human body. Today, Radiation Oncologists rely on advanced diagnostic imaging systems to look inside the body without the need of a scalpel. Even with these highly accurate, non-invasive resources, it is not uncommon for patients to have anxiety about testing. If you are preparing for an upcoming appointment, here is what you can expect for the procedure.

Colorado CyberKnife offers the following Imaging options:

Our Radiation Oncologists perform scans with SIEMENS most advanced CT and MRI medical systems. Our technologies include:

  • MRI Scan – An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan is an imaging test that uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create pictures of the body. It does not use radiation (x-rays). More Information on MRI Scans (What to Expect, Risks, Preparation…).
  • CT Scan – Computed tomography, or CT, uses X-ray and computer technology to take many cross-sectional scans of your body. CT scans help diagnose a range of conditions in organs, tissue and bones. More Information on CT Scans (What to Expect, Risks, Preparation…).
  • Ultrasound – A common diagnostic medical procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce dynamic images(sonograms).  Colorado CyberKnife typically uses ultrasound to place gold fiducal marker seeds in Prostate Tumors.
  • Stereotactic Imaging- In the event an abnormality is discovered with your mammogram, sterotactic imaging allows your treatment team to pinpoint exactly where the abnormality is located in three dimensional spaces, in order to minimize damage to surrounding tissues while maximizing the precision and accuracy of your treatment.

Are these diagnostic tests safe?

Yes. Although every medical procedure contains some inherent amount of risk, Colorado CyberKnife utilizes only state-of-the-art equipment and technology, operated by a specially trained and experienced team.

How much do CT and MRI scans cost?

Typically there is a big difference between the cost of a CT or MRI scan when comparing a Hospital setting with a Non-Hospital Center of Excellence like Colorado CyberKnife, even though the equipment and level of care is often comparable or even better in the Non-Hospital setting.

For instance (and modeling purposes), the typical cost for a CT and MRI Scan at a Hospital is roughly $5,000 compared to $1,000 in the Non-Hospital setting:

Once a patient’s deductible has been reached and co-insurance kicks in, the patient’s responsibility is typically 20% of the amount billed to their private insurance company. As a Non-Hospital Center of Excellence, Colorado CyberKnife has pioneered payment reform, focusing on compassionate, cutting edge cancer treatment in a lower-cost setting, utilizing the most advanced cancer treatment technologies offered.

Appointments are easy to make and we also treat on weekends and evenings. To learn more about CT & MRI imaging, call us today at 303-926-9800 or email info@coloradocyberknife.com.
