One in every six men is diagnosed with prostate cancer, and it is the second leading cause of cancer death for men in America. The good news is that are many things you can do to reduce your chance of developing this disease. One of the most powerful actions you can take is sticking to healthy diet. Although new, advanced treatments like the CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery system are making prostate cancer more treatable, you can minimize your risk by sticking to these dietary guidelines:
Eat Red Grapes
Red grapes are packed with antioxidants that discourage the growth of prostate tumors. You can get these beneficial nutrients by consuming red grapes in just about any form. Eating them whole, drinking red grape juice, and even consuming red wine in moderation will all protect your prostate health.
Increase Your Vitamin C Intake
Vitamin C protects your health in a number of ways. Not only does vitamin C help bolster your immune system, but it also reduces your risk of prostate cancer. Although there are many vitamin C supplements available, the best way to get it is by eating vitamin C rich foods. Citrus fruits are a great source of vitamin C, as are spinach, berries, mangoes, and sweet peppers.
Get Extra Tomato
Tomatoes are great for reducing the risk of all kinds of cancer. Tomatoes have a substance called lycopene that has tremendous potential to discourage cancer development. Tomatoes themselves are high in lycopene, but you get even more of this anti-cancer wonder substance in tomato products, including pasta sauce, pizza sauce, tomato paste, and even ketchup. Just be sure to watch the sodium levels of these foods as some can have high salt contents.
Diet alone can’t completely prevent every case of prostate cancer. If you are diagnosed, turn to Colorado CyberKnife VSI. Located in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, our cancer care facility specializes in treating cancer with the revolutionary CyberKnife, a non-invasive system that gives us the ability to target tumors while minimizing the damage to surrounding tissue. Call us at (888) 592-8185 to find out more.

Some of the biggest mysteries surrounding cancer are simply defining what it is and where it comes from. Part of the problem in answering these questions is that cancer is not a single disease. There are many different kinds of cancers, and doctors suspect that each type of cancer has its own set of triggers and causes. However, there are some basic facts about cancer development that are accepted. Here is what you need to know:
Cellular Changes
All types of cancer begin as a change to a cell. During a normal life cycle of a cell, it divides repeatedly to produce new cells. Eventually, the original cell will become damaged or it will become old and die. However, in some cases, cells don’t die when they become damaged. Instead, the genetic material in the cell changes and mutations occur that interfere with normal cell life cycle. Mutated cells continue to produce new mutated cells that eventually clump together to form a tumor.
Tumors
Sometimes, the tumors that develop from mutated cells are benign, meaning they do not contain cancer. In these cases, the tumors are removed and the cell mutation is gone. Other times, the tumors are malignant, or cancerous. These cancerous cells enter tissues and cause diseases. Eventually, these cancer cells can spread throughout the body. Most types of cancers follow this process, but there is an exception. Cancerous blood cells, which are the cause of leukemia, do not form a tumor.
Types of Cancer
There are a few different categories of cancer. Leukemia refers to any cancer that starts in the blood or bone marrow. Carcinoma is cancer that begins in the skin or the tissue around organs. Sarcoma starts in cartilage, fat, bone, muscle, and connective tissue. Lymphoma and myeloma cancers start in immune cells. Cancers in the brain and spinal cord are central nervous system cancers.
For treatment of prostate cancer and many other types of cancer, Colorado CyberKnife VSI offers an effective, non-invasive option. The CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery system delivers precision radiation to destroy the tumor and preserve surrounding cells to make cancer treatment easier for patients. Call us at (888) 592-8185 to schedule a consultation at our cancer care facility, nestled in the beautiful Rocky Mountains and located just 20 minutes from Denver International Airport.

CyberKnife surgery has revolutionized cancer care for radiation oncologists. This device has given doctors a powerful tool to treat cancer in a way that is far less invasive than other methods, which makes the process easier on the patient.
In the video, you’ll hear radiation oncologists share some of the reasons that they love the CyberKnife. This device allows treatment to be targeted specifically to the tumor with greater precision than ever before. This means more radiation is delivered to the tumor without harming the surrounding tissue. The treatment is non-invasive and can be completed in fewer sessions than traditional radiation treatment.
Colorado CyberKnife VSI is located in the Denver Metro area and is a world leader in this sought-after cancer treatment. To find out how we can help you, call us at (888) 592-8185.
